It’s just a little piece but it is still a piece of my heart. This small wool and cotton table mat is very “me”. The wools are shades of pink and purple. The cotton hearts are a sweet rose print that looks a bit old fashioned to me. The hearts are all stitched down with a small buttonhole stitch. The layers are held together with hand-quilting. The background fabric is soft and drapes beautifully but is also slightly primitive. Any of my friends would look at this piece and say “that’s you!”. And they would be right.

There was a time in my life, mostly the years of raising and home schooling four children, when speed was a focus. My time to work on any of the hand work that I so love was very limited. I wouldn’t trade those years for anything but I am treasuring this time as well. When I sit with my handwork it is time for me to pray for my family and friends. I think about the things I want to do at home to bless the ones that still live under my roof as well as the ones who have moved into their own lives under their own roofs.

I chose a fabric for the background that combines the softness and drape of a cotton quilting fabric with the rustic, primitive look of burlap, Osnaburg. You can see the small flecks of color in the pictures. This fabric is very easy to stitch through and I have been enjoying using it on a few pieces lately that I will be sharing with you in the future.

Finishing at approximately 18″ in diameter this piece works up quickly and would be sweet in any color combination. The pattern is available in my shop here.
Blessings,
Michelle
