Vintage trucks are very popular in home decor these days but I have loved them even before they were all the rage. I think they speak to my love of old things, family, roots and tradition. They harken back to a slower time. A time before the internet and social media. A time when family ties seemed stronger than they do today.

As a mom, and now a grandma, I feel like there is a battle to keep family ties strong. There are so many voices coming at us from every side and sometimes we need to turn those voices off whether they be digital or human.

As a Christian I know how important it is that I make time to hear from the Lord. I intentionally put my phone aside and turn off the tv. I read my Bible to hear what the Lord has for me. This is a practice I started years ago when my girls were very small. At that time there were voices, usually well-meaning, but many voices none-the-less, trying to tell me how to be a mom. I finally realized I needed to stop trying to do everything everyone else thought I should do and do what was right for our family.
These days there are even more voices and it can be very difficult to get away from them. I love sitting in front of my sewing machine listening to nothing but the hum of my machine and the crickets outside. Or maybe I have a chat with one of the cats when they wander in to my studio. I think it is so important to give ourselves time to sort out everything we are bombarded with and decided what is right for ourselves and our families. Just because everyone else eats dinner at 6pm doesn’t mean that works for my family. I’m not talking about solving world problems here but being intentional about how I live my days and what I choose to make a priority.

I certainly won’t say life was “easier” back then. I love my refrigerator and washer and dryer and I’m glad I don’t have to live without them. Maybe what I should say is things were probably simpler back then. I think we could use a good dose of the “Good Ole Days” right about now.
You could color this cute little truck any color you want and change the fabrics to match. I like the dark teal with all the orange fabrics. The pattern is available in my shop now. You can find it here.
It’s time to head outside and mow my lawn weeds. It’s been very hot and dry and the grass has hardly grown but the weeds are knee high…..why is that? Anyway, toodling around on my mower for a few hours is perfect for worshipping and praying.
I pray you find time to hear from Lord today. Trust that He has something for you and make Him a priority. I know you will be blessed!
