Now I know it isn’t fall yet, but as any of you who work with needle and thread know, we have to start early to have our projects done at the correct time. The gentle days of summer are a great time to take handwork outside to a favorite spot and stitch for a while. Preparation for this piece doesn’t take very long then you can head outside with a tall glass of lemonade and while away an afternoon stitching and maybe listening to a Bible study or podcast on your phone. I know I concentrate on what I am listening to when my hands are busy with something. My children accuse my of never actually “watching” a movie with them….they aren’t wrong. Being from NY and a huge Yankee fan I tell my children that when Michael Kay gets excited I always look up!!
Baseball is going to look different this year for sure, but I am hearing whispers of a shortened season and I am looking forward to that. The sound of baseball always “brings me home”. Listening to the sound of Yankee baseball goes back literally to my first summer as a wee babe experiencing physical issues and struggling with the heat. My mother and grandfather would take me outside of town, spread a blanket on the grass along the side of the road and turn Yankee baseball on the car radio. I look forward to that same level of comfort with the approaching season. Sounds and smells can evoke certain feelings and memories can’t they? They are powerful for sure!

The sights, sounds and smells of fall also bring about memories and feelings. Crisp leaves that crunch under foot when I walk through the woods and the bite of the wind tell me fall has settled in and winter is approaching. I try to find beauty in every season, but I think fall is my favorite. Chilly nights good for snuggling under a quilt and warmer days for finishing up putting my gardens to beds for the winter.
This pillow is a generous size that would be great for reclining on the couch with a good book, but I think it will sit on the bench in my entry to greet my friends and family when they come in. It’s whimsical and fun and I think it conveys my heart very well. “Happy Fall Y’All”. Leave your cares at the door, come in and get comfy. Know you are welcome at my table anytime.
Since it is the end of June I don’t have any happy “fall” pictures to share with you. Next time around I will share pictures of the dallies in my garden that are just starting to bloom. I have dozens of different ones each one being more lovely than the last.
The pattern for the pillow can be found here in my shop. I hope you enjoy making one to warm your home this fall.
Many blessings to you wherever you are and whatever season you are celebrating,
Michelle
