I think my greatest treasure these days is the overflowing peace of God within my heart and life. I determined years ago to keep my focus on my loving, heavenly Father no matter the circumstances around me. I have chosen to feed on His word daily and to hide His word in my heart. When the enemy comes in and tries to steal my peace I quickly turn to the wealth of scripture in my heart to remind myself, and the enemy, that I serve a God who is more powerful than anything Satan can throw at me.
You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.
Isaiah 26:3
It’s a choice to stay in fellowship with the Lord. I can let other things consume my time, and sometimes I do, but I have come to love the peace that my heavenly Father grants me when I choose to spend time with Him so I make that quiet time a priority in my day.
God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
2 Timothy 1:7
What a sweet promise that is. We don’t need to be afraid. No matter what is going on around us we can grab hold of His promises and know that He has everything under control. It’s only when we take our eyes off Him that we begin to sink. It reminds me of Peter walking on the stormy water to Jesus. As long as he kept his eyes on his Savior he was fine…
But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!”
Matthew 14:30
He took his eyes off Jesus. He looked at what was going on around him and he was afraid. A very human response, right? How many times do I take my eyes off Jesus and become afraid? It’s very easy to let the circumstances overwhelm us.
Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the one who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.
Deuteronomy 31:6
Such sweet promises from the word of God. He is in control. He is holding on to me and if you have put your hope and trust in Him He is holding on to you as well. I know of no greater source of comfort than the love and protection of my heavenly Father. He is the God of the universe yet He stoops down to take hold of me and strengthen me.
I pray you will know the peace of God that passes all understanding. He is waiting for you, won’t you seek Him today?
Many blessings to you,
Michelle
