Home. What makes this space I call home more inviting to me than any other place on earth? I think first and foremost it is the peace that fills our home by intentionally inviting Jesus in and choosing not to invite in anything that causes strife or division.
“In this place I will give peace,” says the Lord of hosts.
Haggai 2:9
The Lord gave me this verse when we bought our current home 6 years ago. We had been through a few trying years, as all families and marriages do, and this move felt like a new beginning. I have been very intentional to make this home peaceful. Our children are grown, though our two youngest still live at home, and we don’t have nearly as many pets as we used to. Those two things right there mean our house is quieter and cleaner. I love when all my children are home, I love to listen to the banter that always happens as we gather around the table, but I also love the quiet after they leave. I am not 20 anymore and my habits have gone back to what they were before children and pets. I have always loved to create with my hands, I love to read, I love to cook and bake and I love just being home in my own space. So often as I sit at the table in the morning with my Bible I thank the Lord for allowing me to live in this very old but very beautiful house. Unlike our last home we live on a very quiet country road with a horse farm to the south and two dairy farms to the north. Frequently on my walks I only have two or three cars pass me and that is ok by me. I am blessed beyond measure and so very thankful.
What is home to you? Our one daughter lives about a half hour away and is moving into an apartment in a very trendy neighborhood. No off-street parking. Third floor. So. Many. People. It’s a beautiful, historic area of the city and it fits her to a T. She is so excited and I know she will thrive there. Our other daughter lives in a small apartment with her husband and their young son. I know for her that anywhere she can be with the two of them will be home.

I am happiest right here at my country home raising a new flock of chickens and creating new patterns.

February is finished. I added wool appliqué and hand quilted hearts in the deep pink squares. I do love hand work and enjoy adding some whenever I can. The metal “Welcome” sign is from Ackfeld Wire and truly was my inspiration for this series. The little clips make it so easy to change out the mini quilt each month. I still haven’t figured out where I am going to hang this in my house but there’s no rush. Eventually my brain will pick just the right spot and I am content to wait.
This new pattern is available here in my shop. The other months will be available soon!
Many blessings to you today. I pray for peace for you wherever you call home,
Michelle
