I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t creating. My grandmother taught me to crochet when I was four years old and I took that knowledge and never looked back! The steady rhythm of needle and thread brings quiet to my heart when life seems overwhelming. Working with my hands is as much a part of me as anything I can think of. There have been countless times when I feel a peace wash over me when I sit and stitch. I think things come into focus when I choose to sit quietly with my current project. At times I choose to pray while I work, other times I turn on a Bible study and still other times I am watching a baseball game with my soda next to me. I am so thankful for the quiet life the Lord has led me to lead. Certainly there are busy times, and there are times when my two nearly grown sons are not so quiet 😉 but there are other times, like right now, when my house is quiet and I can choose to focus on the things I love most.
Today I will be working on a new table topper mini quilt. I think it is going to be a very fun design made with plenty of half-square triangles. The squares are cut and ready to go. During the day I prefer to work at my sewing machine in my studio. As spring is blooming around me I am anxiously awaiting the blooming of my neighbor’s French lilacs (I think that’s what he told me they are). He has four mature bushes planted on the property line between our houses and the scent of those blooms coming in the windows of my studio is one of the most intoxicating aromas I have ever experienced! The blooms don’t last very long so I am sure to enjoy them to their full while they are around. I have to admit that I hope my home in heaven has these wonderful flowers outside my window!

This verse is very, very me! The image is first colored with Premier Prismacolor pencils. I love adding a touch (or more) of color to my images before I embroider them. I think the extra color adds such life to each piece and I enjoy coloring as much as I enjoy stitching.

I made a small wool mat to accompany the verse. It was very quick and easy to put together. I think it would look very sweet with a small wooden bowl sitting in the middle, filled with old buttons!
Tonight I will be quilting the next verse in this series. The wool mat is completed, I just need to finish the mini quilt. I still have plans to remake all the blocks from this series and gather them into a small wall quilt. I haven’t yet picked the fabric for the sashing and borders so I am holding off on starting. It seems there are so many ideas fluttering about in my head! Slowly I grab each one and bring it to life. I know if I am consistent and intentional they will all come about in His time.
While I love my quiet, country home I know many are very happy in the bustle of city life. Wherever you are today I hope you have a chance to find a quiet place to sit and stitch for a while. May your heart be refreshed in the simple things of life. And if things seem overwhelming, remember our Heavenly Father is waiting for you. He loves you and He desires to carry your burden if you will only give it to Him.
Many blessing to you today,
Michelle
